Playa Bacalar
Bacalar, the small magical town located in the state of Quintana Roo, is home to an incredible 7-color lagoon, also known as “Laguna Arco Iris” (Rainbow Lagoon) because of the incredible shades of its crystalline waters, which are the result of the combination of coral diversity and underwater flora.
Bacalar has a truly magical landscape inhabited by red mangrove and white mangrove, grasses and various types of palms, among other examples of its abundant flora, as well as different species of birds, fish, small mammals and reptiles, and the characteristic pink snail, a symbol of the area.
Location
Bacalar Lagoon is located in the state of Quintana Roo, in southeastern Mexico, near the border with Belize. Located in the south of its territory about 40 km north of the capital, Chetumal.
How to get to Bacalar Beach
Getting to Bacalar is not easy. To the plane trip to Mexico City, you have to add another flight from the capital of the Aztec country to the city of Chetumal, located 39 kilometers from the town. The rest of the trip can be covered by car or bus and it takes 30 minutes to get there. The ADO company has 16 daily services between Chetumal and Bacalar throughout the day. Another safer and more comfortable option is to hire a transfer, private or shared, from Chetumal or Mahahual.
